Still craving pumpkin?

Minimalist baker

This is one of my favorite ‘go to’ sites for vegan recipes.  I have enjoyed many of the recipes from this site and I love to just scroll through the recipes until I find one that calls to me.

I enjoy both the sweet and savory flavors of a pumpkin and when I came across this recipe I knew I needed to add it to my blog, for future reference.

Dewey watching basketball

Every now and then I visit the DS106 site and complete one of the many assignments they have listed for fun. This is one that combined a picture of my sisters dog and a small scaled picture of a CU basketball game. Doesn’t it look like Dewey is just chillin, watching the game with his dog food snack by his side?

Sadly this gentle giant of a dog is no longer with us, maybe he looks down on us like this from heaven?

What is an Infographic?

As defined by Wikipedia: Infographics (a clipped compound of “information” and “graphics”) are graphic visual representations of information, data or knowledge intended to present information quickly and clearly. They can improve cognition by utilizing graphics to enhance the human visual system’s ability to see patterns and trends.

Here are some tools I have used to create them:

Professional Video Vs Self Made Video

I’ve been thinking about some videos I created for a previous course of mine and thought I’d share my thoughts on the role of a professional and a self-made video, as well as benefits and disadvantages of each.

Content aside, there are two basic types of produced web-based video:

  • Professional video, found on Discovery, Hulu, etc.
  • Self produced content, found on YouTube, TeacherTube and Instructables

What is the role of each?
A professional video is focused on a specific topic for a specific reason. It probably has multiple people collaborating on it, bringing in different ideas. The editors have access to high end, sophisticated editing software and sound mixers. It also has a budget to cover the costs.

A self produced video is created based on the individual’s ideas and interest. There may be other input from others but I would suspect the majority of the content or ideas are coming from one person. There isn’t a specific budget allotted to its creation and the tools to produce it may just be free, open source, tools available to anyone.

What are the benefits of each?
A professional video is created for public consumption, on a large scale and it will probably bring in revenue for the company that created it.

A self produced video is a way to express an individual’s ideas and to give them a create outlet.

What are the disadvantages of each?
A disadvantage of a professional video is that it is produced with strict guidelines, scripts and creative license may be limited based on who is wanting it produced and is paying for it to be produced. There are specific things to follow and that must be met.

Where a self produced video could be anything at all an individual wanted to create, it may be in done in poor quality and have no purpose.
